Let's Finish Strong!
It's the first of the month and we're excited to be half way through the year. People say that time flies when you get older and it is so true! I feel like we were just celebrating at the Taste of Gullah Geechee a few months ago. Nevertheless, we are excited to embark on the next 6 months of the year with meeting and/or exceeding our personal and business goals. While there are tons of resources out here and coaches to help you create and reach your goals, we are here to give you our two cents. When it comes to goal setting consider these points.
- Reflect and Brainstorm:
- Think about what areas of your life you'd like to focus on. This could be your career, health, relationships, hobbies, or personal development. It's ok to focus on one, two or all of them. Personally our focus shifts depending on what needs the most attention at that time.
- Brainstorm specific goals within each area. Don't worry about being realistic at this point, just get everything out there!
- SMART Goals:
- Use the SMART method to refine your goals. This means making them Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Bound.
- For example, instead of "get healthier," a SMART goal could be "attend a yoga class twice a week for the next 3 months to increase flexibility." SMART goal setting is a game changer. Personally it's easy for me to say I'm going to do more sales calls but it's way more effective to plan 10 calls per week. It's measurable, achievable and relevant to our success.
- Action Plan:
- Break down each goal into smaller, actionable steps. This will make them less overwhelming and help you track progress. For example, I can plan 10 sales calls per week and break them down to 2 calls per day. That definitely sounds doable.
- Identify resources you might need and potential challenges you could face. To assist with meeting goals both personal and in business it is a great idea to have an accountability partner. Both 'Emma and myself try to hold each other accountable for the goals we set yearly, quarterly and monthly. It hits a little different when you have someone to answer to.
- Track and Review:
- Regularly monitor your progress towards your goals. Are you on track? Do any goals need adjusting? Adjusting your goals is necessary sometimes. Just keep in mind that if you find yourself making major adjustments all the time then you may not have set the right goals for your current situation.
- Celebrate your achievements, big and small! This will help you stay motivated. Remember that your goals are for YOU and no one else. Be sure to adjust them according to your needs and pivot when needed. As long as you're always working to improve yourself then you are on the right track.
Let's finish 2024 STRONG!
