The Barnyard Pimp

While speaking with a client regarding their menu we got on the subject of the fried chicken they had requested.  It was a toss up between drummettes or whole bone in chicken. They wanted the whole bone in chicken but wanted to know which pieces we would include. My reply was that it would be the standard 8 piece mixed. To my surprise they didn't know what that entailed which prompted me to write about it this week.

We had a full discussion on how a standard 8 piece mixed box is made. Typically it contains 2 wings, 2 drumsticks, 2 breasts and 2 thighs - basically a whole chicken. Most people don't think about it like that but that's what it is. LOL. Of course if you go to some of the popular fast food chains they might not have one piece or the other which causes the pieces to be off a little but at the end of the day when you open your box, the aforementioned is what you should expect.

I always tell people the chicken leads a hard and short life. Besides most people eating it, the poor chicken has been called more names than I can remember. Did the title barnyard pimp catch your attention? Probably. And the funny part is when you read it you knew exactly what I was talking about. It's been called Yardbird, Shake N Bake, A la chicken, and more. At the end of the day it's still one of the most versatile proteins around and sometimes the most economical.

My favorite fast food chicken restaurant is Popeye's for bone in and Cane's for their chicken tenders. Of course ultimately I love my own Southern Fried Chicken from Carolima's, but sometimes I crave it from somewhere else and those are my go to favorites.  Where do you go for your fried chicken fix?
