Taste of Gullah Geechee
Lets kickoff Black History Month with a celebration of Gullah culture! Taste of Gullah Geechee is an event based on the culture of the two founding sisters Emma’ Cromedy and Sameka Jenkins. The dishes are inspired by the African roots of the people in the Gullah Geechee region. The inspiration for Taste of Gullah Geechee comes from a desire to share the culture from their childhood with a focus on the foods they grew up eating.
Gullah dishes often include rice, okra, seafood, and any meats that weren’t desired or passed on, that they made into a delicacy. They often made something out of nothing. When you come to Taste of Gullah Geechee you will sample foods and hand crafted cocktails from these wonderful participants:

For a quick history recap -
The Gullah Geechee region is from the coastal regions of North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida. These were a people mostly from West and Central Africa.
