Summer Cooking Camp with Carolima's

We are thrilled to provide our summer cooking camp after a 5 year hiatus! We've had so many parents and their children asking about the camp over the past few years and we are ready to train our young chefs and have some fun at the same time.  Registration is now open and we will host 2 sessions for age groups 8-12 and 13-17. We're accepting young chefs with no experience as well as those who are familiar with the kitchen.  We will assign duties based on their cooking experience. 

What to expect:  Your young chef will spend 5 days learning about the Gullah Geechee culture as well as preparing menu items derived from the African diaspora.  They will learn how to prepare dishes like Charleston Red Rice which has a direct correlation to Jollof Rice and so much more. They will also learn fundamentals such as knife skills, how to measure, how to use essential kitchen utensils, how to set a table properly and more. At the end of each session lunch will be served from the items prepared in the kitchen that day. 

What is included: The registration fee includes daily instruction from our Executive Chef and Pastry Chef, Sameka and 'Emma along with our Education Specialist, Rethmiriam. It also includes all food and materials needed to prepare the menu items daily. Young Chefs will be issued a keepsake apron and a certificate of completion at the end of the week.

  •    The summer cooking camp will be held June 10-14 (ages 8-12) and June 17-21 (ages 13-17).

Can my child participate if he has food allergies? 

  • Yes.  Please make us aware of any food allergies in advance
  • Please note that we are in a facility where nuts are present

Is there a discount for multiple children? 

  • The rate is the same for each young chef

What is the deadline to register? 

  • Registration will close on May 24th or when the classes sell out if sooner

How many slots are available for each session?

  • There are 10 slots available for each session

Is early drop off available?

  • Young chefs can arrive as early as 8:30am

What is the cost to have my young chef participate? 

  • Camp is $275 for the week and includes instruction, menu costs and a keepsake apron
