Hard Work + Determination = Achieving Your Dreams

Having a dream is a wonderful thing. When we are children we are often asked “What do you want to be when you grow up?” When we are teens and young adults the question becomes “What do you want to do with your life?” I think one of the most important questions that a person needs to ask themselves is “How do I go about ACTUALLY making my dream come true?” It’s easy to look at someone’s current status and say “I want that too”, but we don’t always look at their entire story. How did they get there? What sacrifices did they make? What adversity did they overcome?

While each of these sisters grew up with a passion for cooking and later began their own businesses separately, in 2017 they decided to team up to begin a new chapter in Carolima’s Lowcountry Cuisine’s story. The ball started rolling and the business took off. The future was looking bright. 

And then the pandemic hit.  2020 was a year that saw many businesses close their doors. For the sisters, it was a time to think outside the box. What could they do to not just keep their business, but also grow their business? The answer…grow their visibility. This was a two part plan; First by interacting with customers at the local farmers markets; Second by growing their social media presence.

Business tip: Use the tools you have available, especially the ones that are free. Facebook & Instagram are powerful tools.  The sisters started live cooking demos on Facebook as well as increased their posts on Instagram. Being creative and determined is a powerful combination necessary to overcome adversity. Sameka’s “Secret to Success” - CONSISTENCY. Continue to work hard toward achieving your goals. Don’t let the road bumps stop you. And as every South Carolina resident knows, we have some major road bumps, lol. 

Keeping in mind your future achievements will help drive you towards future success. Habakkuk 2:2 says “Write the goal and make it plain.” The future is looking bright for Carolima’s and these two amazing sisters can’t wait to see what the future holds.
