Farmer's Market time is here!
We love locally grown produce during this time of year. We always stress to our clients that the best time to consume a fruit/vegetable is during their harvest time. We understand that with technology we can eat just about anything at anytime nowadays, but there's something about enjoying a fruit or vegetable when it's just the right time. For example, I am a watermelon LOVER. When I tell you I love watermelon, I LOVE watermelon! During this time of year I may buy a watermelon every week. We also love making fruit displays during this time of year because strawberries are in season. A sweet watermelon coupled with some sweet, bright red strawberries makes for a great seasonal fruit display.
Tomatoes are my second favorite fruit - yes tomatoes are a fruit. LOL. We make the BEST tomato pies during this time of year. There are so many different types of tomatoes to choose from and our local farmers do an excellent job with offering us the best variety. If you haven't had a slice of tomato pie before keep your eyes open and we may offer it on the menu this spring. You just don't get more southern than a tomato pie.
Some other seasonal fruits and vegetables that are great for farm to table dishes are summer squash, lettuce, beans, cabbage, carrots and kale. What are your favorite fruits and vegetables for the Spring/Summer season?
To help you with sourcing the best in local produce we've compiled a list of local farmer's markets where you can support local.
